Literacy

At Tarwin Lower Primary School, we believe that literacy - the ability to read and write – is essential for future success.

Literacy is vital to ensuring your child has the best chance to succeed in their schooling and everyday life. That is why literacy is our priority and fostering a love of literacy is one of our aims. We ensure students receive 10 hours of literacy a week.

Literacy is tied to everything we do. It is evolving into much more than the ability to read a newspaper and the latest bestseller. For the teachers and students, it is also about being intellectually, culturally, critically and electronically capable.

Regardless of this shifting definition, literacy is essential to developing a strong sense of well-being and citizenship. Children who have developed strong reading skills perform better in school and have a healthier self-image. They become lifelong learners and are sought-after employees.
