Hi Grade Prep/One and Grownups,

I hope you are all feeling a bit more settled with your online learning as we roll into week 3. I feel as though we are getting the hang of this new technology and it's been great to see our classmates each day. Take some time to acknowledge the amazing resilience our students are showing during this crazy time. They are becoming more confident in our online meetings everyday and that's a credit to the grown ups for modelling the calm. Give each other, and yourselves a pat on the back!

And now ...Welcome to week 3!

Below are the learning tasks for this week, Week 3. Each morning (fingers crossed) I will pop up a video outlining the days learning for you to watch before we meet online. That will free up our 10.30am Webex meetings for sharing learning and asking questions. From now on if your child is not present in our meetings, they will be marked absent on the roll.

Some extra worksheets are pdf linked below, but please use workbooks to complete tasks and paste printed sheets into scrapbooks so we don't misplace anything along the way. In an attempt to cut down on the amount of printing you are doing at home, some of your tasks may be a little bit different. Let me know how you find it.

Your child's Reading Eggs, Mathletics and Soundwavesonline passwords are pasted into the front of their reading diaries. Students have unlimited access to these sites at anytime and they are a great addition to student learning. Please email the school if you need another copy of these.

This week for reading, you will need to log into Sunshine Online.

Username: tarwinlowerps  Password: tlpsisgreat

Next week we will be moving over to a new reading resource. It will be similar to Sunshine Online but a little more comprehensive and relevant. However, you can still access Sunshine Online and use it for home readers and enter those books into reading diaries.

Here is my timetable of availability.

NOTE: I will be unavailable on Wednesday 29th between 11.20-11.40am and Thursday 30th until 9.30am as I will be attending meetings.

As always please feel free to email me at school if you have any questions, queries and or concerns.

Recount Writing (Writing Book)

Prep- Draw a picture about your weekend or something fun that you've done. You might like to write about doing one of your home learning or maths tasks from last week. Include what you did, where you were, who was there and when it was. Write a sentence or two about your picture.

One – Draw a picture about your weekend. Include what you did, where you were, who was there and when it was. Write a recount that includes a title, an introduction (who, when, what and where), a sequence of events (what happened in order), and a personal comment with a WOW Word.

Remember- handwriting is always a focus.

Maths- Capacity

Capacity means how much that something can hold. When we talk about capacity we use words like empty, full, holds less, holds more, half and equal, which means the same.

Talking with a grown up about each slide, watch the capacity powerpoint.

Then you will need a selection of approximately 6 different sized drinking cups, mugs and glasses (be careful with the glass please). Discuss ‘Which of these would give you the biggest drink, why?’ Have a go at lining up the cups in order to show which would hold the biggest to the smallest drink. Fill one cup with lego, rice, dried beans or pebbles etc and pour it into the others, one at a time to find out if it fills the other cups (same capacity), if any spills out (holds less) and which holds the most (holds most). Discuss what you found out.

Maths- Capacity

Watch this clip.

Find a plastic bottle. In your maths books, draw how many cups (any kind of cup) of water you think the bottle will hold so that it’s full. Tell a grown up why you think that many. Fill the bottle and see how many cups it takes to be full. Tip the water out of the bottle and get an egg cup or a container of a similar size. Think about how many egg cups of water it will take to fill the plastic bottle until it’s full. Use the egg cup and count how many you need to fill the bottle. Discuss why it took more egg cups than cups to fill the bottle.

Drafting (writing words to get your ideas on paper)

Today you are drafting an Information Report about the dinosaur that you designed yesterday. On Page 27 (again, feel free to copy instead of print) you will be writing words about your dinosaur. Use yesterday’s plan to help you think of some great WOW words. Remember to use nouns (names of people, places and things) and verbs (action words). You will definitely need to describe what your dinosaur looks like. Pop this somewhere safe because you’ll need it tomorrow.

Publishing/Presenting (Good Copy)

Prep- Today you get to share your dinosaur Information Report with someone. It might be someone at home, someone over the phone or FaceTime or even Ms D on Webex. Read them your writing and talk about your picture.

(Preps, if you want to have a go at the grade one section of today’s writing activity you certainly can).

One-Today in your writing book, on a printout of page 30 or typing in a WORD document you are to make a good copy of your dinosaur information report. This is where you do your very best writing or typing to present your great work. You can use what you wrote on page 28 (revising sheet) to produce a good copy. On Monday we will share. Don’t forget to add a picture of your dinosaur to your good copy.

Spelling-

Prep – Jolly revision song (Some will be a sneaky peek as we haven’t learnt them yet)

One- Soundwaves U sheet side 2

Handwriting-

Finish any incomplete activities from the week.

Maths- Capacity

For this activity you will need a partner and a plastic cup. In your maths book, draw 5 containers from around the house that you think would home more than your plastic cup. Tell your partner why you chose those containers.

Then find and draw 5 containers from around your house that you think would hold less than your plastic cup and share with your partner.

Finally, find and draw 5 containers from around your house that would hold an equal (same) amount and share with your partner. If you like you can do some measuring and find out.
