Hi Everyone!

I hope you have all had a lovely break and an enjoyable Easter.

Below is the current learning for the week.

The lessons have links to worksheets and websites associated to the learning.

Let's have some fun while navigating our way through learning online. I look forward to seeing all of your work!

Please find your 'home learning' list and tick sheet included in this document You get to choose an activity from the list each day. Keep your own record and tick off as you go.

Mathletics can be accessed via this website: https://login.mathletics.com/

Soundwaves - students have passwords in their home learning packs

Senior class timetable.

Due to Google Meetings being a bit more difficult than we thought, we are now using a new meetings page called Webex. The link that you will need to get in contact with your teacher is on Compass for grownups to find. This link will not change.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact myself via Google Meet during my available times or the school email address - here

Reading - Interviewer-Interviewee

Mango, Abuela, and Me. story link here

Please complete the first activity outlined under 'Continue the Learning Journey' over WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY.

Please modify it to meet the requirements of the 'Interviewer-interviewee' role. (refer to your Lit Circle book and tick sheet to help you - must be at least 6 'fat' questions, not 3).

Suggested way of staggering this activity:

Wed= reading, do your boarder, paste in tick sheet (if you can) heading, write down the questions you wish to ask (please leave enough space for answers!) tick sheets here

Thu= call a grandparent or special friend. Write down their answers to your questions.

Writing -

No writing scheduled for today.

Spelling - Soundwaves

“G as in Girl”

Please get a grown up or sibling to test you on your words. You know how to set this out. Correct your work and circle 10 spelling words to learn for the week and write out the sounds in the boxes provided. To practise, you can write each word out 10 times or play hangman with an adult.

Maths -

Grade 4, Number sequences:

1. You are playing 'Fizz Buzz' with a grown up (or more). It's like buzz, just an extra rule has been added:

You stand in a circle, or across from one another if playing with only two people. Your focus are 2's and 3's.. at the same time! When a multiple of 2 is reached, you say buzz! When a multiple of 3 is reached, you say Fizz. When a multiple of both 2 and 3 are reached, you say fizz buzz!! See how far you can get.

Once you've played the game, on your hundreds chart here, shade all of the multiples of 2's in red, the multiples of 3 in blue, and half red/half blue for shared multiples! Discuss and write down any patterns that you notice.

Grade 5, Multiplication

1. With a deck of cards, practice your multiplication (times tables).

You can have a partner to verse you. Split the deck into two and on the count of three, flip a card from each deck over. Now multiply them! First one to get it correct keeps the cards. The person with the most cards wins. This can be played as a single player too. Picture cards = 10. (Just don't forget to take the jokers out).

Grade 6, Composite numbers:

1. Using the hundreds chart provided here, colour all of the composite numbers.

Remember, a prime number is snobby... only itself and 1 go into it. Composite numbers are nicer numbers. 20 is a composite number because 5x4 make 20, 2x10 make 20, as well as 1x20.

Paste this coloured 100's sheet into your maths book.

Home Learning Task -

Please follow the link provided in the Introduction at the top of this page.

thursday

Reading - Interviewer-Interviewee

Continue and complete the activity from yesterday.

Writing -

In your writing book, complete the activity below:

An ant’s life - Ants are amazing - so small but super powerful! They are able to work together as a team to lift several times their own weight. Write a story from an ant’s perspective as it goes on an adventure through your house. What might the television or the computer look like? Would an ant be afraid of the vacuum or a shoe? How would the ants work together as a team?

Plan first! access the planner template here

Ensure you have a complication! How will the ants overcome this?

Spelling -

Complete your Soundwaves sheets for "G as in Girl"

Must complete the first four activities, then complete just four other activities of your choice. This is a minimum for this week, aim for more if you wish.

Maths -

Grade 4, Number sequences: 1. Please complete the next Mental Maths, set a 7 minute timer and correct with a grown up.

2. You are playing 'Fizz Buzz' again. This time with 4's and 8's! This might be a little trickier - printing out this hundreds chart (here) will help you. Once you've played the game, on your hundreds chart, shade all of the multiples of 4's in red, the multiples of 8 in blue, and half red/half blue for shared multiples! Discuss and write down any patterns that you notice.

Grade 5, Multiplication: 1. Please complete the next Mental Maths, set a 7 minute timer and correct with a grown up.

2. Complete these worded problems that involve multiplication, draw it out if you need to. Record your answers and circle the question that is not multiplication! find sheet here

Grade 6, Composite numbers: 1. Please complete the next Mental Maths, set a 7 minute timer and correct with a grown up.

2.

Now, in your maths book, choose 6 composite numbers (vary them please so don't choose the easiest that you can see in your 100's chart from yesterday, challenge yourself too!) and write down all of it's factors!

Eg. If I choose 20, I would list 20, 1, 5, 4, 2, 10 as it's factors!

Play this game to test yourself on identifying prime and composite numbers! Try and get to level 2!

Home Learning Task -

Please follow the link provided in the Introduction at the top of this page.

friday

Reading -

You may need to re-read Mango, Abuela, and Me.

Complete the second dot point activity, and include it below your 'Interviewer-Interviewee' responses in your lit circle book (don't forget to give this it's own title). Get into character, consider the feelings and thoughts Abuela might be having.

Writing -

Edit your ant story. Up level at least 3 of your connectives and 3 of your openers. Also, add in some description about the characters, places, and objects! 'Show me, don't tell me'.

Read your story to a family member or someone via phone or FaceTime. They should have a really good picture in their minds.

Take time to re-read your story out loud. You may need to: add words, take out words, add an extra paragraph of description etc.

Once you have done this, publish (make a good copy) either on word or neatly in your writing book. please make sure your story font is size 12 and either calibri, arial or times new roman. Other than that be creative with the heading, border and pictures if you wish!

Editing resources are here.

Spelling -

Continue to practice your 10 spelling words of the week just as you normally would for homework (write them out in fancy or bubble writing, include them into a small story, play hangman etc.)

Handwriting -

Please complete 'Horizontal joins' activity pages. (Grade 4: pg.14, Grade 5: pg. 26, Grade 6: pg. 27). Don't forget to find a spot where you can have a good writers posture while completing the activities.

Maths -

Grade 4, Number sequences: 1. Please complete the next Mental Maths, set a 7 minute timer and correct with a grown up.

2. Complete the assigned Number Sequence activities on Mathletics.

Grade 5, Multiplication: 1. Please complete the next Mental Maths, set a 7 minute timer and correct with a grown up.
